Your First Day
Rosa's welcome tour, the New in Town list worth 110 coins, and what changes once you're a local.
Your first day in the city comes with a guide (Rosa), a to-do list (New in Town) and a welcome gift (from Sal). Here’s how it all works.
Rosa’s Tour
Rosa is your building’s super. Right after you make your New Yorker, she offers a quick tour. It has four short stops:
- Walk around. Click anywhere on the ground to walk there. Rosa marks a glowing spot to try.
- Things that glow are clickable. Carts, shops and doors light up when you point at them. Click them for snacks, clothes and jobs that pay coins.
- Say hi and make friends. Type in the chat box and press Enter to talk to the room. Click any New Yorker to add them as a friend.
- Go anywhere. The map and the subway take you all over the city. Your first-day list at the top left shows what to try next.
- Use Next and Back, or the → and ← keys. Enter also goes to the next step.
- Skip Tour (or Esc) ends it any time.
- Want it again later? Press ? or click the ? button at the top left. It’s also in the Phone menu as How to Play.
New in Town
Your first-day list sits at the top left of the screen. It shows one step at a time, with a hint and a Show Me button that points you to the right spot. If it’s in another place, Show Me takes you there first. Click the list’s title to see every step.

That’s 110 coins in all. Each step also earns XP. Finish the list and you’re officially a New Yorker: Rosa sends her congratulations, you get an Everything Bagel bean bag for your apartment, and you earn the Local stamp.
Your Welcome Gift
Sal runs the hot dog cart in Times Square. The first time you click it, he offers a free welcome gift. Pick one:
- NYC Cap
- Big Apple Beanie
- City Shades
- Foam Liberty Crown
- MetroCard Lanyard
You’ll put it on right away. After that, Sal’s cart sells hot dogs (2 coins). If your starting look already had one of these, Sal skips straight to the hot dogs.
After New in Town: Today in the City
Once your first-day list is done, the same spot shows Today in the City: three small challenges a day, the same three for everyone. Each pays 15 coins, and finishing all three pays a 25 coin bonus. New ones arrive at midnight New York time. See Today in the City for the full list.
Coming Back
- Daily refill. The first time you drop by each day, you get free coins. The refill grows with the days you visit this week, and it never shrinks if you miss a day. How it works
- Your stuff is saved. Your New Yorker, coins, wardrobe and apartment are saved to the city. As a guest, they live in this browser until you link an account.
