A Carb-Jitsu match at Joe's Pizza: the bodega cat at the table, two cards facing off, and a hand of five food cards at the bottom.
Pick a card: click it or press 1 to 5.

Every pizzeria in the city has one table where the big arguments get settled. At Joe’s Pizza, it’s Carb-Jitsu: two players, a hand of five cards each, one very serious food fight.

Where to Play

  • Quick Match or Create Lobby on the Games tab (F), or a friend’s code or link. Finding a Game
  • The chalkboard by the window table at Joe’s Pizza.
  • Nobody around? Play a Local, and a city local sits down across from you.

The Rules

  1. Both players pick a card at the same time from a hand of 5: click it, or press 1 to 5. You have 15 seconds; if the clock runs out, it picks for you.
  2. The cards flip together. Food beats food:
    • Pizza beats Pretzel (it’s a whole meal).
    • Pretzel beats Bagel (knots beat holes).
    • Bagel beats Pizza (breakfast comes first).
  3. Same food? The higher number (2 to 12) wins. Equal numbers tie.
  4. The winner keeps the card on their tray. Every card also has a borough color: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx or Staten Island.
  5. Win the match with three of one food from three different boroughs, or one of each food from three different boroughs.

Special Cards

Specials only work when their card wins the round:

Rent ControlNext round, the lower number wins.
Rent HikeTheir next card is worth 3 less.

Winner Stays On

Up to 6 people can sit at a table. The winner keeps the seat, the next in line plays them, and everyone else watches. Letting the clock play 4 rounds in a row, or staying disconnected for 30 seconds, forfeits the match.
